announced for 2011 Healthy Kids, Healthy WV
week
Marshall Recreation Center and
Junior League of Huntington hosting events
focused on physical activity and healthy eating
for kids
HUNTINGTON, WV – The
Young Professionals Committee (YPC) of the
Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce invites
kids from throughout the region to participate
in Healthy Kids, Healthy WV 2011 events that
will feature physical activity and healthy
eating to help tackle childhood
obesity.
Healthy
Kids, Healthy WV is a week-long statewide
project created by Generation West Virginia to
promote physical activity and healthy eating
for children. Now in its second year, Healthy
Kids, Healthy WV is being presented to
Huntington-area children from October 15
through October 22 by the Huntington YPC with
the support of The Marshall Recreation Center,
The Junior League of Huntington and
Huntington’s
Kitchen.
“We hope
that by bringing attention to childhood obesity
through these activities, and by working
closely with schools and local groups, we can
help children and their parents make wise
health choices,” said Charles Shumaker,
vice-chair for the Young Professionals
Committee of the Huntington Regional Chamber of
Commerce. “We want to build on the
momentum from Healthy Kids, Healthy WV week and
bring more groups and organizations on board
for next year so we can continue to encourage
healthy lifestyle
habits.”

ABOUT
THE EVENT: Get active in a spooky setting!
Kids cardio class, kids Zumba, a haunted
obstacle course and a healthy eating challenge
are among the activities scheduled for Haunted
Rec 2011. Children are encouraged to wear
clothing suitable for physical activity and be
ready to get moving and have fun with The
Marshall Recreation
Center.
In
addition to these events, local schools and
Huntington’s Kitchen have special events, field
trips and school health fairs planned to bring
attention to the health and wellness of
school-aged
children.
Generation West
Virginia is a statewide network of young talent
organizations established to serve as a source
of action and a voice for young talent across
the Mountain State. The group represents the
current and future generation of young leaders
who want to contribute to our state’s present
and future success with energy, ideas,
collaboration, and most importantly action.
