Outdoor Pursuits
The purpose of the Marshall University Campus Recreation Outdoor Pursuits is to provide challenging, fun and educational programs that teach essential outdoor skills, teamwork and self-confidence, encourage personal growth and enable participants to stay fit and learn about the environment around them.
One of the most visible portions of the program is our indoor climbing wall. Marshall Campus Recreation offers a full service climbing facility that includes top rope, lead and boulder climbing, rappelling and indoor climbing lessons, group rentals, programs for kids, schools, families, and scouts, and team building opportunities.
The climbing wall is a 35' wide, three story tall lead wall with an attached 22' wide by 12' tall bouldering wall. The lead wall has nine lead routes with top-rope belay bars and a two-three person belay ledge. The wall is a freeform design by Entre Prise Climbing Walls and incorporates built-in ledges, pockets and cracks including two, full height climbable cracks. Come try your skills year round on our surface that looks and feels like real rock. Marshall is into “Green” you can be
too! Sign up for one of the Outdoor Clinic
sessions and gain the skills and confidence you
need to move it from inside to outside. Don’t
be afraid to let your true color show. We’re
there to get you enthused about the outdoors
and provide you with the knowledge it takes to
become a responsible recreationist. Get
outside!
