Youth Outdoor

youth_outdoor

By experiencing the wonder of nature and developing skills in outdoor recreation, young people, age 8 – 18, gain a life-long appreciation and understanding of the importance of natural resources. They also learn valuable life skills in making decisions, communicating thoughts and feelings, making healthy lifestyle choices, and fulfilling responsibilities to others in their group and community. Programs offered are:

  • Youth Climbing Clinic
  • Knot Tying
  • Swimming
  • Youth CPR/First Aid
  • Camping
  • Kayaking
  • Backpacking

Partnering with the Outdoor Pursuits staff, participants will learn and practice fundamental climbing techniques, gear use, wall operations and expectations, and everything else needed to safely climb. Participants will learn balance, posture, what to look for in harness/shoes, various hand positions, route difficulty ratings, and more. Those unfamiliar with the fundamentals and new to climbing are welcomed! No climbing knowledge or gear is required.
