Thunder Cup

Each year thousands of students participate in a variety of sports, leagues and divisions offered through the Marshall Intramural Program. Our program strives to provide students with a variety of recreational opportunities that allow them to engage in healthy competition. Whether you’re a gifted athlete or just want to play for fun, intramurals are a great way to get involved in recreation!

The Thunder Cup is a prize awarded at the end of the semester that goes to the team with the best overall representation in the various sports leagues and tournaments.

Who can play?

Intramural events are open to all currently enrolled Marshall University students, faculty, and staff who have paid the respective usage fees, meet the University’s eligibility guidelines and are in good standing with the University.

When do we play?

Most intramural games are played Monday-Thursday between 5:00 pm—11:00 pm. However, we do offer occasional weekend play and may extend hours due to high numbers of teams or rain-outs that occur during a season.

Teams are given the opportunity to choose between one of two levels of competition, Division I for competitive play or Division II for recreational play. Students will indicate their preferred Division of play when they register their team.

Students commonly form teams through their residence halls, student organizations, or even with a group of friends. Don’t have a team? Check out the free agents in the league.

Open League – This league is reserved for students who want to get together and play, but are not associated with a specific student organization

At the end of league play there will be a single elimination tournament. 1st place will get 25points, 2nd place will get 15 points, and 3rd will get 10 points.
